At the museum we get loads of phone calls asking us the same questions so we thought we'd put some of the most common together on an FAQ page to help you with your plans for a visit to see us. As you can see, we're starting off small with just a few of the most common questions, but if there is a question you think we should answer on this page, please let us know by email and we will see about putting it on the list.
DO YOU ACCEPT DOGS ON SITE?
Yes, as long as they are friendly and kept on a lead at all times. They can even go on the rides with you as long as they don't try and eat our volunteer crews. As you'd expect, only guide dogs are allowed in the cafe.
DO YOU HAVE FACILITIES FOR DISABLED PEOPLE?
The museum site is quite uneaven and not brilliant terrain for wheelchairs, although we always ensure our new developments have accessibility in mind and many of the museum's display buildings are wheelchair accessible. We have an adapted toilet facility and the ability on most occasions to offer our visitors in wheelchairs a ride on a tram and the train, but these are both subject to the availability of the right vehicles at the time you wish to visit. If you want to check whether these will be available before you visit, please just give us a call and we will try to help if we can.
DO YOU HAVE A CAFE?
Yes! It serves a wide variety of hot and cold food and snacks as well as all the usual drinks and ice creams that you would expect. It closes 30 minutes before the museum site each day.
DO YOU HIRE OUT BUSES AND OTHER VEHICLES?
Unfortunately the answer to this is NO! It is simply too complex to negotiate the legal hurdles that would be required for us to do so at the present time.
CAN YOU GUARANTEE WHICH VEHICLES WILL BE RUNNING ON A PARTICULAR DAY?
Unfortunately not. All of our vehicles are elderly and therefore can be a bit temperamental from time to time and as such are sometimes 'off the road' for maintenance. Also, we like to spread the load of working in passenger service amongst our fleet so that they spend roughly equal amounts of time in service over the course of a season.
DO YOU HAVE A CAR PARK ON SITE?
We have an ample sized free car park on the museum site that is available for use on all our opening days apart from those that are special events when the car park becomes our 'bus station'. On these days there is a free park and ride service provided to a nearby car park that is clearly signposted from the museum.
